Walton Heath Golf Club: Old

Slope: 135
Designed by Herbert Fowler (1904)

Herbert Fowler’s debut design in 1904, Walton Heath’s Old Course, is a masterpiece of heathland golf. Inspired by coastal links, the course features rippling fairways, firm turf, strategically placed cross bunkers, and greens that blend seamlessly into the landscape. Its out-and-back routing showcases natural beauty and subtle challenges, with fields of heather adding both visual appeal and strategic intrigue. Notably, the layout opens with a par 3 and finishes with a formidable stretch of five demanding holes, including the par-5 16th, which is often played as a long par 4 in tournaments. Donald Steel’s modern updates have ensured the course remains relevant for today’s players without sacrificing its classic charm.
